Michael Farrington: (Owner and chief bottle washer)

I started racing bicycles in 1977 and retired from regular competition in 2002, with the birth of my second son. I competed in bicycle motocross for 10 years, 6 of them as an Expert. I then switched to road racing as a freshman in college, which led into my mountain bike racing career. I raced as an expert mountain bike racer and category 3 road racer. Both licenses I still hold today. My boys are old enough to start racing soon so I’ll be back. I still do my favorite mountain races every year.
I graduated from Millersville University in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and minors in political science and history. I worked for Stauffers of Kissel Hill in the nursery from 1981 to 1989. I started Green Mountain Cyclery in 1989.
My hobbies include surfing, skateboarding, skiing, and motorcycles on and off road.

Jennifer Farrington: (Office manager and whip holder)

Jenn has been along for the ride since day one. The shop wouldn’t function without her. Plus she makes a mean chili…

Brandon Schreiber: (Service Manager and head wrench)

“El Diablo” I started riding mountain bike in 1994 and have been annoying Mike ever since then. After high school I drove out to Colorado to go to Barnetts Bicycle Institute. I completed courses in frame prep, fitting, suspension theory service and tuning, wheel building and design, and bicycle maintenance overhaul tuning and repair. When I got back I started working for Mike, it was the summer of 98. My first day of work involved helping a team member who ran his car out of gas (less than a mile from a gas station he had just passed).
Other hobbies include hunting, fishing, and hiking.
Bike: Specialized s-works hardtail with sram X-9 avid brakes and a hodgepodge of other parts.

Zach Reed: (Sales Manager and crazy bmxer)

“Zach Reed is a rider not a thinker” I started racing bmx bicycles when I was 13. I raced till I was 14, I started shopping at Green Mountain about the time I stopped racing. Not to long after I starting coming to Green, I started bugging Mike about a job, the shop became a second home to me and before I knew it I was there almost every day. After I graduated high school I went to auto school at UTI, after a semester I realized that I really wanted to follow my passion for bicycles so when I came back I started talking to Mike about a job. In September of 2004 Mike hired me and I never looked back. Bicycles are my passion so everyday I look forward to coming to work not because I have to but because I love what I do. As far as hobbies really the only one I love to do is ride so that’s what I do on my free time.
Bike: 2008 Mirraco Black Pearl Lite Frame with too many parts to list (really really freakin lite)

Brent Kametz: (Road and Triathlon specialist, and one heck of a teacher)

I discovered the freedom of cycling when I was 13, exploring the winding roads and quieter places in Northeastern Lancaster County.

A few years later, I read a magazine article about a fledgling sport: mountain biking. I did an exhaustive search of area bike shops looking for something that would suit my needs and my college-student-budget. After finding Mike's old Akron shop by accident, taking a 15 minute test ride, and speaking with Mike for another 15 minutes, I knew I found my bike, my bike shop, and a friend. The next summer I started working at Mike's new shop location, and, some 15 years later, I still help out during the busier times.

I've learned a lot since my first day at the shop when my mechanical proficiency was limited to putting air in tires. I eventually served as a race mechanic at several editions of The 24 Hours of Canaan and The 24 Hours of Snowshoe. I also spent two years as a mechanic with the Sportsbook.com Professional Cycling Team and helped out an additional two years with Team NERAC Pro Cycling. Even though my professional life is now spent in the classroom as an English as a Second Language Specialist, you can still catch me lending a wrench at local charity rides, triathlons, and bike races.

My racing career contains a handful or two of victories. I was the PA State Cyclocross Champion (Cat.4/5) in the late 90's and a state medalist in the Time Trial (race against the clock). Since being diagnosed with Type-1 diabetes in 2001, I have done fewer cycling races in favor of running and multi-sport events. In 2005 I qualified for the XTERRA National Championships and the US Adventure Racing Assoc. National Championships.

While I still really enjoy being competitive at races, I take a great deal of pride in helping new riders, including my wife, Adrienne, discover the joys of cycling. Through my work with Group Cycling classes and the Triathlon and Bicycling Clubs at the Ephrata Rec Center, I've been able to introduce dozens of people to the sport and a happier, healthier lifestyle.
